Day 2
Visit of East & West Salalah
Morning:
• Taqah Village: Start your day by visiting the old fishing village of Taqah, famous for the manufacture of dried sardines and its traditional Dhofari houses. You will also visit the Taqah Castle, a century-old residence of the Wali (Governor) of the region, offering a glimpse into the rich history of Salalah.
• Sumharam (Khor Rohri): Continue to the ancient ruins of Sumharam (Khor Rohri), once a major port on the incense route between the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, and India. The city was vital for frankincense trade and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
• Mirbat: Proceed to Mirbat, the ancient capital of Dhofar. Stroll through the streets lined with old Omani mud houses, and make a photo stop at Bin Ali's Tomb, a classic example of medieval architecture.
Afternoon:
• Ayn Razat: Explore the natural spring of Ayn Razat, a tranquil spot nourished by natural underground spring water year-round, surrounded by lush mountains.
• Qara Mountains: Proceed to Qara Mountains, where you’ll enjoy the sight of camels and cattle amidst traditional Dhofari rural beauty. You will also visit the ancient tomb of Prophet Job, located in the scenic green mountains of Salalah.
• Mughsail Beach: Head to Mughsail Beach, where the white sand meets the deep blue ocean. At high tide, watch waves burst through the natural blowholes on the rocky beach. This beach is a beautiful spot to relax and take photos.
• Frankincense Trees: Continue along the winding road towards the western border of Oman. Here, you’ll see the legendary Frankincense trees growing in their natural habitat in deep valleys, dotting the craggy countryside. Take a short walk to experience the smell of Holy Incense in the scenic surroundings.
• Birdwatching: On your return journey, make a photo stop at the lagoon near Mughsail, where migratory birds, including flamingos, can often be spotted.
Evening:
• Return to your hotel and relax.
• Overnight Stay: Enjoy another peaceful night at your hotel in Salalah.
