Itinerary:
After breakfast at the camp, we depart at 8:30 AM towards the east. On the way to Taqa, we will pass by the Royal Farm and Marmura Palace, where you can see the traditional Dhofari houses and the famous dried sardines. In Taqa, we will make a stop to visit an interesting castle, which was the former official residence of the Wali (Governor) of the region, offering insight into the rich history of the area.
Next, we travel east to explore the ruins of Sumhurum (also known as Khor Rori), an ancient city that was the easternmost outpost of the Hadramawt Kingdom. It was a significant port along the ancient incense trade route and a key hub for the frankincense trade.
Afterward, we head towards the Qara Mountains, where you will witness the breathtaking beauty of the Dhofar mountains. Along the way, you will see herds of camels and cattle, providing a scenic view of traditional Dhofari rural life. We will then visit Job’s Tomb, the reputed final resting place of the Islamic Prophet Job, where you can learn about the legendary story of his devotion. The Al Garbib Plain offers stunning and unparalleled views.
