Via Ferrata – The ‘Iron Way’

Via Ferrata is a protected climbing route using fixed steel cables, ladders, and rungs. This allows climbers to scale steep rock faces safely with minimal equipment. Oman has several Via Ferrata routes, with the most famous being VF1 at the Grand Canyon near Jabal Shams.

Itinerary

📌 Day 1: Mountain Climbing & Via Ferrata

• 7:30 AM – Pick-up from hotel & drive to Jabal Shams (2.5 hours).
• Stop at Wadi Ghul viewpoint (2000m above sea level).
• Start the famous Balcony Walk (2-hour trek along the canyon’s edge).
• Arrive at Sab Bani Khamis and begin the 30-minute trek to the Via Ferrata start point.
• Climbing experience begins! (~1.5 hours).
• Hike back (~15 minutes) & return to the car.
• Drive back to Muscat, arriving at 5:00 PM.

Additional Information

• The full trek takes about 4 hours (2 hours each way).
• For Via Ferrata, only bring your helmet, water, and camera—everything else can stay in the car.
